Situated right in the heart of Ng’ombe, Twin Palm is more than just bricks and mortar - it is a haven where children from all walks of life come together to learn, grow, and dream. Among them are two sisters, Gracious and Pauline, who have found solace and opportunity in the reading program at this school.
Gracious, with her infectious smile and boundless energy, is a perfect contrast to Pauline's quiet and introspective nature. Raised by their mother, who works tirelessly as a janitor to make ends meet, the girls have known the struggles of poverty all too well. Yet, despite their hardships, their mother's unwavering belief in their potential has kept their dreaming shining bright.
The girls initially attended a public school where their mom expected them to receive a standard education, but they found themselves falling behind. It was then that their mother heard about Twin Palm's inspiring reading program and saw it as a beacon of hope for her daughters' future. With a leap of faith, she enrolled them in Twin Palm, and the results have been nothing short of remarkable.
Since their transition, Gracious a fifth grader, and Pauline a sixth grader, have made incredible strides in their literacy journey, mastering sounds, reading words, and crafting sentences with newfound confidence. From this point on, their lives will never be the same again.
The consistent support of our Education Mentoring Team has been instrumental in equipping Twin Palm’s teachers to create and maintain such a powerful reading program. Moving from less than 50% of the students reading in 2022 to more than 80% being able to read in 2023, they are on an upward trajectory with all of their students!
