Getting Teacher Resources into Eager Hands

With a class of 50 preschool students, Teacher Rhoida has her hands full! A typical day of learning in this class involves singing songs, reciting chants, and copying shapes and letters from the chalkboard. Unfortunately due to a lack of resources and the experience in how to use them, there is very little hands-on, interactive learning.

So last month, we packed up a box of teaching resources from our Center and visited Rhoida’s classroom to try them out. Together with Teacher Rhoida, our staff introduced the students to sorting activities, threading shapes, and number clocks. Both Rhoida and the students had a great time learning through play!

The following week when we visited her school, we found Rhoida and her class using the resources for another interactive lesson. We're so excited that she has seen the value of this kind of learning and is eager to incorporate it into her classroom! When she finishes with this box of teaching resources, she can load up another one at our Center.

Hands-on learning at an early age will transform how these preschoolers are able to think and process information - preparing them for many more years of learning!

For most community schools, teaching resources are a luxury they can't afford. But through our Impact One Center, they are finally a reality they can get their hands on! Stocked with games, puzzles, science kits, flashcards, dress up clothes, and so much more, our Teacher Resource Room is generating so much excitement amongst our teachers. For the first time, they have access to supplies that can enhance their lessons and they have a personal mentor to help them learn how to use them.  Just like Teacher Rhoida, they are eager to facilitate interactive lessons to provide a better learning experience for their students. And we are committed to spending time in their classrooms to help them achieve just that!

This year, we are expanding our Center so that we can expand our impact. This includes building new rooms, filling them up with resources, and using them to train and mentor many more teachers. If you’d like to find out more about this initiative and how you can join us, click here.
