"We have no Bible at home because they are expensive!"

Meet 12-year-old Edna, one of the students who visits the Library on Community Day. Edna has been visiting the library since she was nine years old; she remembers that she and her friends heard about the library from students in the grade above and followed them to our door. Edna enjoys reading books and would give a summary of what she read to the staff most of the times she visited the library.

This year, we introduced comprehension quizzes to community kids to have them not only read but understand what they’re reading. To encourage kids to take the quiz, we introduced incentives with winning a Bible being the highest prize.

Right from the start, Edna began completing comprehension quizzes as she wanted to win a Bible.

“We have no Bible at home because they are expensive, and I want to have one to use at church and school,” Edna said.

Her hard work and persistence paid off, and she became the first to win a Bible. She said, “When my mom heard I won, she was so happy and hugged me. She told me she was proud of me.”

Her friends are working hard now so they can win Bibles! Edna is continuing to complete quizzes so she can win another Bible for her older sister. Through the library, Edna now has a Bible she can use with her family, and she will be able to know Jesus who can change her life forever.
